Journey on your Path

NEXUS: A Neo Novel

by Deborah Morrison & Arvind Singh

A Journey of Transformation!

We welcome you to our site. This is a place where you can explore the path that leads to personal transformation and creative living.

Our novel Nexus: A Neo Novel offers a Journey of Transformation at a unique Spiritual Retreat created to help people find their “Nexus.” People in our book are intuitively drawn to a spiritual retreat led by Chandra Singh and Celeste where they learn about self empowerment and life transformation.

From a connection with the centre of their being, the Nexus, each person struggles to expand on an area where they need to grow. Most importantly, as experiences awaken empathy they realize they are not alone in their suffering.

The Characters:

The journey for Logan Andrews, the anti-hero of Nexus: A Neo Novel, is a movement from negative thoughts influenced by depression to hope, faith and confidence. He has to develop inner peace and just like Logan many of us go through “the dark of the soul” but hope can guide us even during difficulties.

Steven, an arrogant millionaire, has to learn that while money can offer material comforts, true happiness arises from within. He learns the importance of love and compassion. Like Steven we can all become cynical but that attitude doesn’t offer inspiration for living.

Sarah McMaster, Logan’s ex-girlfriend, needs to regain courage and like her we can become indecisive when faced with a dreadful challenge. In the story, she rejects Logan, her ex, but does she still love him?

Muriel, a grandmotherly figure and a widow, wants to be around caring friends in her old age and before her death. Her Catholic faith assures her she will reunite with her husband in heaven yet a part of her is afraid of dying alone. While Muriel has faith as she confronts her own death, she still yearns for friendship. Does she find the closeness she wants?

Setting & Plot

The retreat is set outside Elora, Ontario a picturesque town situated on the Grand River 20 kilometres (12 miles) north of Guelph and Kitchener. The authors have visited this area and love the spectacular Elora Gorge, the Elora Festival, quaint town shops and the local artists.

We thought this peaceful setting would be a perfect location for a retreat and so it’s the setting of the spiritual centre described in “Nexus.”

Our Journey as Writers:

Our journey of writing “Nexus” began during a seminar led by Richard G. Green. The seminar was about Native story-telling and it was open to the public. During the seminar, Richard talked about the importance of finding your voice and how writing can be therapeutic. What really got us was when he described how writers have an innate curiosity about the world and people around them.

While at a bus stop, most people would be too busy with their own concerns and not care to survey others. But a writer would be engrossed by everyone waiting for the bus. She would create a whole story about each person from just watching them. We felt that Richard was describing us!

He then proceeded to say that most writers are in denial of the fact that they are writers. During the break, 6′2″ Richard towered over 5′2″ Deborah and firmly asked: “Are you a writer?”

She answered “yes” and both authors felt a rush of energy from exploring the craft of writing. We had bought Richard’s book on writing, The Writing Experience, an Iroquois guide to written storytelling and used it as our guide to the fascinating world of story-telling………And that’s how our journey began as writers and it led to “Nexus.”

Why did we write Nexus?

Evolution of human history has focused outwardly, since satisfaction of physiological needs had been paramount. We have with technology and science learned how to control many aspects of the outer world. What remains as part of human transformation is the inner journey. This is precisely what Nexus is all about.

It is a movement from the outer shell of mental agitation to a quiet place of peace within. It is this place that great spiritual leaders, both ancient and modern, accessed for both inspiration and personal transformation.

We wanted to share with readers a way to create personal transformation & empowerment in our life through the journey of each person in the book. The transformation for each person is different involving meditation exercises, yoga, psychological understanding, spiritual insights and vivid experiences.

Why Should I Read Nexus?

Nexus presents a holistic vision and an organic process of transformation derived from psychological, spiritual and social development of each individual in the story. It offers a unique story where personal pain is experientially transformed into a spiritual vision of wholeness. Through the connection to the source, the Nexus, we can empower ourselves and others.

“Nexus” offers:

  1. A fascinating psycho-spiritual journey of transformation
  2. Ability to relate experiences of people in the book to our own life journey
  3. A unique story full of insights on transformation, love and peace
  4. A holistic vision of unity through empathy with others
