The main character, Logan Andrews, in our novel suffers from depression/despair. The book places you experientially in his mind and for some readers this might be overwhelming, since the thoughts are overwhelming, even scary at times. Please keep in mind that people going through severe depression can go through these types of thoughts in their everyday life and we didn’t want to hide it in our novel.
The book starts out with a heavy atmosphere with his failed suicide attempt. A part of Logan wants to live and reclaim his lost life and love, Sarah. In a way, the novel is a struggle between these two sides: One wanting to “exit” life and the other seeking personal transformation.
I won’t give away the plot but I would advice you to read the story from the beginning to the end, otherwise you will not get the primary message of the story, which teaches about love and compassion. We tried to avoid a “preachy” tone in the novel, instead we let the plot unfold and through the journey of each character, the reader can decide what it all meant.
Our novel, Nexus: A Neo Novel, will be available in October 2006. We will give more information on it as we get closer to that date.
I’d like to see the journey of your main character in your book. It might offer hope to people suffering from mood disorders. It’s a heavy topic that deserves attention.
I hope your book doesn’t glorify the whole idea of suicide. It doesn’t sound like it does but that’s a concern. The portrayal needs to be realistic with dramatic flourishes to make the story interesting.
Tommy,
Nexus contains a realistic portrayal of suicide, and absolutely does not glorify the whole idea of suicide, but rather attempts to enhance our understanding of deep states of despair, depression and also to the extreme of suicide.
Of course offering hope is a central aim and purpose in our writing Nexus.
Here’s a positive affirmation for anyone who may be feeling ‘down’…be meditative and reflect on the Truth of this statement…silently repeat this affirmation in your mind to begin your day, and also throughout the day and you will notice how much better you will feel.
